Temple Mishkan Tefila is dedicated.
September 13, 1925
Architect: Krokyn, Browne & Rosenstein. Designed in the Neoclassical style and clad in Indiana marble, it is located at 218 Seaver Street. The largest synagogue in Boston, its dedication, Rabbi Herman Rubenovitz later declares, “[Its construction] marked the beginning of a new epoch in the evolution of Jewish life in New England. Here was finally realized the old idea of a Stadt Shul, a great central synagogue which could serve as a place of assembly for the entire community whenever some special occasion demanded it.” The congregation moves to Newton and the building is purchased by a congregation of Lubavitcher Jews in 1958. The building is purchased by the Elma Lewis School of Fine Arts in 1968,* then by the United House of Prayer of All People Pentecostal Church in 1997.
